With a the best linen dial we have seen on a watch of this period, this Seamaster De Ville is both sporty and dressy. Model reference 166.0020.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1964.
CONDITION
The Seamaster was the waterproof, sportier watches, and the De Ville line were the dressier range, but there was for a while models that were both dressy and sporty, hence we have an Omega here signed Seamaster De Ville. The outstanding part of an overall very nice watch is the dial – often linen dials can become grubby but this is as clean as we have ever seen. The case is a two part construction, with the movement coming out through the front of the case. The lugs are gold capped, and we are not sure if the bezel is gold capped or plated, but there is no wear to it. Inside you will find Omega’s calibre 562, a 24 jewel automatic movement with semi quick set date and swan neck fine adjustment – normally only found now on very expensive pieces. It is all working well of course. The beads of rice bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The 20 micron gold plated bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and the bracelet number is 1503 with the end links numbers 70. There is significant wear to the plate on the bracelet, which looks even worse under the bright studio lights. You could also wear this with a leather strap if preferred, pictured, which is how it was sold originally but someone has added the bracelet (it was possible to upgrade when buying the watch new).
