The Master Mariner is one of the last affordable Super Compressor cased watches available, at least for now anyway.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production date on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to not being made before December 1964.
CONDITION
EPSA invented a new way of sealing a watch case, which actually got tighter the deeper you went. They are known as Super Compressor cases, and you can read more about the technical aspects here. One easy way to spot a Super Compressor case is the cross hatched crown. Some will have been lost over the years, but on this watch it is still in place. Over 100 different manufacturers used these cases, including Jaeger-LeCoultre, Longines, Girard-Perregaux, Bulova, Enicar, , IWC, Blancpain, and Universal Geneve, so you know the standards required. Le Cheminant are a much more niche watchmaker, but the watches we have had have always been good quality and the choice of this case demonstrates this. Le Cheminant never made their own movements, so in this watch this fitted an AS1701 25 jewel automatic that is all running well, and also has a semi quickset date complication that is working too. The dial is quite clean and has promethium lume, noted by the initials PM under six. This was quite expensive compared to Tritium, and doesn’t appear often on watches. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
