This petite ladies 1964 Tissot has an unusual concave dial, a manual wind movement and 9k gold case. Model reference 39421.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1964. The London hallmark on the case is also for 1964.
CONDITION
This is a very small cocktail watch, which would not only be the height of elegance but also tricky to make. Within a few millimeters Tissot made a 17 jewel, manual wind movement, calibre 70, with two sets of shock protection rather than the usual one. The concave dial is another unusual feature, but is almost acts as a magnifier for the hands – the effect is quite nice. The dial does have even patina all over the dial, but is original and not repainted. Being so small it wasn’t a difficult decision to have the case made from 9k gold, as it is only a few grams so wouldn’t make the biggest difference to the price Tissot could charge back in 1964. The case was made by DS&S in England, and the movement would have been cased in England to avoid (legitimately) the import tax on complete gold watches, which was very harsh in the 1960’s. We have shown the watch stacked on three coins, the smallest being a 1p piece, to help with scale. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. The buckle is gold plated and not by Tissot.
