A New Old Stock (NOS) Jaquet-Girard in a super compressor case, bought directly from the owner of Jaquet-Girard.

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being in made in March 1964.

Normally you will find super compressor cases on divers watches.  The clever design that actually used the water pressure to become tighter the deeper you go, and were more commonly found in some of the best divers watches from the 1960s – these cases were used by JLC, IWC, Girard-Perregaux, Longines and Blancpain among others.  There is a good article on Worn and Wound here about Super Compressor cases.

A dress watch is a Super compressor case is a rare find.  To be blunt, it is engineering overkill for a watch that probably won’t get wet.  But we have found other examples out there, so they will have sold.  What sets this example apart is condition.  The 10 micron Jaquet-Girard branded bracelet is a rare find, and could be replaced with a leather strap if you wanted to tone down the appearance.  The dial and case is close to perfect as you will find, and the crossed hatch crown is similarly in fantastic condition (and these are very valuable in their own right).  The ETA 2452 automatic movement is keeping good time, although the date can sometimes not align fully.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
