This early monobloc Top Time set the bar for all the Breitling Top Time’s that followed. Model reference 2002.4

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1964.

The Top Time was Breitling’s answer to the 1963 Heuer Carrera 45, and shares much of the same specification – A Swiss 45 minute chronograph manual wind movement housed in a waterproof stainless steel case with pump pushers. The details on each watch are then quite different, using different movements, case lug designs and now the price of the Heuer is at least double the Breitling. This Breitling has the Venus 188 manual wind movement fitted, which switched to the related Valjoux 7730 in 1966 (and can be considered the base for the still in production Valjoux 7750!) One way to spot the earlier watches is the case is made in one piece, with access to the movement via the crystal. Later non waterproof cases you could remove the case back. The all silver dial is in good overall condition, but there are a few scratches when you look closely. The tachymetre scale is all legible, which is not always the case with these. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
