HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number between the bottom two lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1963.

CONDITION

For many years Tudor were considered the poor cousin to the parent company Rolex.  Essentially the two brands share some parts, but Tudor watches always had third party movements whereas Rolex had in house movements (even if some of Rolex’s more complex movements were bought in from the likes of Zenith!).  So this Prince Oysterdate has the waterproof case and screw down crown from Rolex, but the movement is an ETA 2462.  In the real world what difference does this make?  Well the ETA is cheaper to service, and it has semi quick set date whereas the Rolex doesn’t.  The watch is working very well indeed.   The screw down crown is stamped Rolex, but it is on the last thread.  The case is unpolished so shows some marks, mainly on the flanks.  The silver dial is good and has the small rose logo not the later shield, and the small rose is more collectible (according to the market prices).  The leather strap is new.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
