A rose gold plated, 1963 Roamer men’s manual wind watch with box and papers
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied paperwork we can accurately date this watch to 1963. The manual wind movement, an MST 372, was produced until 1962 so this watch would have been made before 1963 but sold in that year.
Update – we have information that Rolex took exception to Roamer using this logo, as the five diamonds above the RW logo looked too similar to the Rolex logo. Roamer only used this logo in 1957/8, so this watch is likely to be made during these years and then sold in 1963.
CONDITION
This is an unusual watch in two ways. First is the choice of 20 micron rose gold for the plating. As most manufacturers used yellow gold for their watches, this stands out in any collection. The second distinctive feature is how numbers on the dial at 12, 3, 6 and 9 are attached – they are part of the case and not the dial. They really do stand off the dial well. The clean and original crosshair dial is in great condition, and we have fitted a new leather strap.
