A square cased men’s Patek Philippe manual wind watch, with that valuable Extract from the Archives. Model reference 3406.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This watch was sold on June 7th 1963, according to the extract from the archives that was supplied with the watch. Patek Philippe now charge CHF 500 (£400~) for an Extract from the Archives, so while this one is a little creased it is still a valuable document. The document also shows that this watch was made in 1963 too.
CONDITION
A solid gold, mechanical Patek Philippe is going to be many peoples dream watch, or grail. Unfortunately production has always been in low numbers, so not everyone can get one even if they have the money to be able to afford one. Indeed, of the top 100 most expensive watches every sold at auction, Patek Philippe watches take 86 of the 100 results. This watch is simpler than some of those auction heroes though. Fitted with the manually wound calibre 23-300 in house movement, the time is displayed with just two hands. The dial is very good with some slight age marks. The crown is the original signed one. The glass has a couple of small marks to the centre, but no chips or cracks. The solid gold case is unpolished and showing just light marks. but one lug is slightly bent. Being a square case it wear larger than the dimensions suggest. The dark blue calf leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. It is fitted with a buckle that looks a little like a Patek buckle, but this is not marked with any makers name and is gold plated.
