A classic design from Omega that overlapped both Seamaster and De Ville ranges by co signing this dial. Model reference 14905 SC62.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1963. According to Omega’s own website, the 14905 model was launched in 1960.
CONDITION
The De Ville models are more dress watches. The Seamaster range were waterproof watches. So when Omega made a waterproof dress watch, they co branded it Seamaster De Ville. It wasn’t especially water resistant, just to 30m when new, but the water resistance was helped by having a monobloc case. That means to remove the movement you have to remove the crown and split stem, and the glass, and the movement holder slides to one side to release the movement. One advantage of this in the modern day is that amateurs don’t tend to get into the case to post movement pictures to the ‘gram! The movement is a treat though – a 24 jewel automatic calibre 552, with swan neck fine adjustment on the balance that you would rarely see today on a sub £10,000 watch. The silver dial is good, with just light patina. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and crystal.
