A nice, manual wind Tudor from the Sixties with the Oysterdate case from parent company Rolex. Model reference 7962.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number between the bottom lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1962.
CONDITION
Rolex set up Tudor in the 1920’s to provide cheaper watches than the parent company. That is why Tudor watches of this period proudly state ‘Original Oyster Case by Rolex’ on the caseback, and this watch also uses the patented Twinlock crown with the Rolex logo on it. Where the comapny differs is the movements – instead of an in house movement the Tudor watches use nicely specified movement made by other companies, and then signed Tudor. That approach is nothing new – there is significant savings to be had by doing that both in production and now – a Tudor should be cheaper to service than a Rolex, as parts are more readily available. In this watch is a 21 jewel calibre 2403 manual wind movement, with capped jewels, which is running well. The date can be semi quick set, by advancing the hands past midnight, then back to 8pm, and back past midnight. The case is 20 micron gold plated, and there is some wear on the back of the lugs and the case shoulders that looks worse in our photos than it does in natural light. The dial is original and unrestored, and does have some marks and patina, as do the hands. The crown screws down smoothly. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.

This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
