HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the Extract from the Archives that we requested directly from Patek Philippe we can accurately date this watch to being originally sold in December 1962. In order to supply the extract, Patek Philippe require all the model reference numbers as well as multiple pictures of the watch, including the dial, movement, inside of case back and more.
CONDITION
The Calatrava is the defining dress watch, and this is probably the best one you will find. First launched in 1932, the Calatrava didn’t really break any new ground in terms of looks, but it was quickly recognised as the the finest of its type.
Reference 2592 has a solid 18k gold case with a decorated bezel. It might only be a 32 mm case, but this is normal for the style of watch and at just 6mm thick it is in perfect proportions. Inside is a manual wind 23-300 movement, with shock protection, and this is adjusted for five positions and two temperatures – the high standards one would expect from what is widely considered to be the finest watchmakers ever. This example has a Patek Philippe branded strap, possibly the original. That is attached to the 18k PP&Co stamped buckle. The recessed crown is stamped with the company logo, and is very crisp. The glass is unscratched and the dial is only marked with one small dot near 7, but otherwise clean.
