This Hefik presentation gold watch is in good order, with an interesting inscription from the Britannic Assurance Co. Ltd.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the inscription on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being sold/gifted in December 1962. The Dennison case is hallmarked for Birmingham 1960, so the watch could not have been assembled before this year. It was common practice to import watch movements and then assemble them in England to avoid high import duty on completed watches during this period in time.
CONDITION
The case back has a curious description – £50 increase. Using the Historic Inflation calculator this equates to over £1,000 in modern money, so this may have been a prize for good achievement. The case itself is all in good order, with just light surface scratches and no dings. The acrylic crystal has just light marks, and the dial is similar although there is some dirt around the edge of the dial that isn’t immediately noticeable. The manual wind movement, a FHF 70 marked first quality, is working well although the crown is losing some of the gold plate. The strap is a new leather item that could be swapped at no extra cost for either a brown or black item.
