HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in April 1962. The Jet Rotor movement was only introduced in October 1961, so this is an early model.
CONDITION
Almost all automatic watches have a rotor mounted centrally and then spinning around to wind the watch up. This Citizen Jet is similar, but the rotor isn’t mounted by a central pivot point – it revolves around the outer edge of the movement. This allows a slightly slimmer profile, but any other gains are minimal and the idea was canned in 1967 for a simpler, conventional rotor. The watch we have here has the earliest and simplest Jet Rotor movement, calibre 0310, without any date functions. It can be hand wound, which is a better way to start the movement, and then the auto can top things up. The case is 20 micron gold plated, including the case back, and it looks good. The dial does have a scratch near 10 that is a shame. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
