A clean, simple three handed 1962 Certina watch in lovely condition. Model reference 5102 015
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1962.
CONDITION
Back in 1962 Certina were not part of a large corporate group, so they were free to do their own thing. They made their own movements for example, and very nice they are too. It allowed them to compete with brands that now are positioned higher than them by marketing departments, making their vintage watches somewhat undervalued (more so in the UK, less so in Europe).
This example has a chromed case, not that you would know that from the condition. It also has the Certina 25-36 manually wound movement inside. This has 17 jewels and micro adjustment on the regulator, and the finish would impress many a watchmaker. It is running nicely of course, and is a pleasure to wind and set. The dial is very good, as are the hands, and the plexiglass has just a few scratches. The black leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred – any colour would suit this dial and case combination.
