Audax was founded by Eberhard & Co back in 1902, and in the fifties tied up with Fortis too.  This gold presentation watch was reward for 25 years hard work and loyalty.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the Edinburgh hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1962.

CONDITION

We are not sure who H&E Ltd were, but they valued the 25 years service to H. Whittles with a gold watch that Mr Whittles clearly saved for best.  The dial is as good as you will find, very clean and all original.  As most people smoked the dial was always the first thing to show signs of damage on non waterproof cases.  The case is 9k gold, and made by BWC (British Watch Cases, of Pentonville Road, London) and is clearly stamped with the hallmark.  The case is also dent free and shuts crisply.  It was quite common to import a Swiss movement and dial and case it in the UK to avoid punitive import duty on gold watches.  The movement is an Audax branded Venus 180 calibre, with 17 jewels and running sweetly.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
