A fantastic condition Rolex Oysterdate Precision 6694 Model. Manual wind with date.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We can date this perfectly to 1961 by the serial number on the original case. The serial number 74**** could date to either 1951 or 1961, as Rolex restarted their serial numbers in 1953. But as the Rolex 1215 movement didn’t start production until 1954 this must be a 1961 watch.
CONDITION
The gold plated case has minimal signs of wear but the 40 micron gold plate has not rubbed through anywhere. The twinlock crown is original with the Rolex crown , underscored to show the twinlock innovation, and screws down nicely. The dial is the original radium dial – these were used until the early Sixties, and if the watch had had a later dial it would have tritium lume. You can tell the difference as the later tritium dials will say T-SWISS-T under the 6 index, whereas this just says SWISS. Now on a quality brown leather strap with later gold plated Rolex buckle. This is possibly the best example on sale today.
