Majex used the strapline ‘The Good Swiss Watch’ on all their period advertising.  After all, lots of people want a good Swiss watch.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the Edinburgh hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1961.

CONDITION

The movement is the watch is a Peseux 320, in top specification 21 jewels configuration.  This is a good movement, and the case is made by British Watch Cases (BWC), who were also a good case maker.  It was quite common, or even the norm, to import a Swiss movement and have it cased in British case during this period, as the import duty on complete gold watches was very punitive.  Both the case and the leather strap, which looks to be period by the design and type of buckle, show very little wear and the case back has never been engraved.  The dial has minor spotting , but the hands and applied hour numerals are all good, as is the quartered sub seconds dial.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
