As the Flagship name suggests, this was the top of the range and features an interesting movement too.  Model reference 3403.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1961.  The import hallmark stamped on the inside of the case back has a date letter but isn’t clear.

CONDITION

This is peak Longines, when they were at their best.  And their Flagship model has a lot going for it.  The case was made by Longines themselves, which would have attracted a lot of duty when being imported to the UK at this time.  Inside the case back is the mark for Baume and Co, who were the official importer for Longines and Vacheron Constantin for the UK at the time.  With the case back off you can see the automatic movement, calibre 340, which is unusual in having an off centre rotor to allow a larger balance.  The rotor runs on five ruby ball bearings, which are not including in the 17 jewel count for the main movement.  The case is large for the time and quite substantial.  The dial has nice quartered numbers and is clean other than a couple of small spots.  The acrylic glass is new.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
