This Ladymatic from Omega was one of the first designs of compact ladies automatic watches.  First launched in 1955, this 1961 example is ready to wear and enjoy.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1961.

CONDITION

For a long time in the Swiss watch industry the men’s watches had all the technology and innovation, and the ladies watches were designed to look pretty.  It is still the case to some extent now.  Part of this is just a male dominated industry thinking it knows what women want, but part of it too is technical – if a woman’s watch case is smaller, then you have to make everything smaller to fit in it.  It is unusual to even see a sweeping seconds hand on a ladies watch for just this reason, so to have sweep seconds and an automatic movement Omega were really showing their female customers that they did care.

This example is good.  The original signed crystal is there, along with the signed crown too.  The case has a seamaster logo on the case back – we are not sure if that is original or something that has been swapped over the years.  The caliber 455 is running sweetly.  The aftermarket golden bracelet is a decent length.

This watch will be supplied with a presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
