A popular model for 1961 birth year watches, this Eterna Centenaire 61 is in a gold capped case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
You must be careful with the ’61’ on the dial, as this model was made for a few years. However, from the serial number on the 1489U movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1961.
CONDITION
The linen dial has an even patina, probably caused by smoke damage. This is a good indicator that the dial is original and unrestored, but might put some people off – we prefer to keep the originality than redial the watches, and we do have customers who love patina like this. The case is capped in gold, so this is very thick and unlike gold plating this takes wear and knocks much better. On the enlarged photos you can see a chip to the top left lug, but in real life this isn’t much of an issue. The counter sunk crown is the original one, signed with the Eterna five ball bearing logo. Being countersunk it is tricky to wind the movement via the crown, but a few shakes start the automatic movement easily. The second hand is white, which we haven’t seen before, so this may be a replacement. This is the first Centenaire we have seen with the signed case back that is still very legible.
This watch will be supplied with a presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
