This gold filled cased Citizen Deluxe has a great dial finish as well as upgrades on the movement. Model reference 51407093.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in April 1961.
CONDITION
There are reasons Citizen called this their Deluxe model. The manual wind movement , Citizen’s calibre 156, has 21 jewels. On its own, that is a little overkill for a three hand manual wind watch, but Citizen also fitted their Parashock shock protection system on three different pinion points – most shock protected watches are only shock protected once, on the balance pinion. Also the case is 10k gold filled, rather than the more normal gold plated. Gold filled cases use far more gold than gold plated ones, and tend not to show the wear as much. This has wear on the lug tips and a little on the top bezel, but it is more noticeable in the enlarged photos than in real life. Then there is the dial, which has a polished outer chapter ring and the centre has concentric circles, meaning the light constantly bounces in different directions. It is always interesting, even if the gold hands against the gold dial are not always the most legible. We have taken a close up photo of the dial using a 43x microscope to reveal the detail. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
