With a heavier than average 9k gold Dennison case, this Omega Seamaster is in remarkable condition.  Model reference 4825.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1960.

CONDITION

Dennison, and their rivals DS&S, were UK based watch case makers who worked with some of the biggest Swiss brands.  Brands like Omega would send Dennison the movements, dial and hands, and Dennison would fit it to a case ready for sale.  If you are wondering why, well the tax on completed Swiss watches was very high post war Britain, but if they were finished in the UK then the import tax didn’t apply (who would think a 1960 watch would be topical today!).  This must have been one of the more expensive options, and the lugs and case design are quite thick.  The case back contains a seal to aid water resistance, as this a Seamaster, but we are not sure if the patent that Dennison applied for related to this part of the case design (or if the patent was granted.)  The case back is nearly 8g, which is more than double that of case backs on most 9k gold watches.  The bezel has some light patina where it has not been in touch with anything in years – this can be polished off easily, but would be hard or impossible to recreate.  The manual wind movement is Omega’s calibre 520, a seventeen jewel unit with swan neck fine adjustment.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred.  The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and crystal.

The cheapest new men’s Omega is currently £5,300.  The cheapest gold Omega, albeit 9k bronze gold instead of 9k yellow gold, is the 2024 Paris Olympic special at £11,300.  For a vintage gold Omega in this condition we do believe this represents excellent value for money.
