This ladies Smiths Empire watch, model Y811, was available from 1958 to 1961 and this one has lived most of its life on the box.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the original guarantee and, unusually, the stamp on the back of the original box we can accurately date this watch to being sold in November 1959.
CONDITION
The watch is in great condition. It came to us on a cordette strap, possibly the original, but the buckle was missing. We think the buckle came off, and the watch went back in the box awaiting repair. We have fitted an expanding bracelet that is correct for the period, but the only disadvantage is that the watch doesn’t fit perfectly in the box anymore. Cordette straps are still available, but they tend to be very short. The case does has a small tool mark on the non crown side. Running well and keeping good time.
