The rarer manual wind Tudor Oyster with ‘Small Rose’ black dial still wears very well. Model reference 7934.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1958.
CONDITION
We always advise caution with black dials, as it is the dial refinishers favourite colour and was also less common in period than today. But looking at this dial using the microscope we see the small tritium plots are aged, and some are missing – a fresh redial wouldn’t have missing or aged lume plots. No paint is visible on the sides of the applied hour markers, and the silver text is risen and not flat. The lume, weak as it is (and should be), is even with the hands with just a smaller amount showing at eleven and one where the top of the lume pips are missing. Add to this evidence that, ten years ago, it was not financially viable to repaint the dial on Tudor watches. In all we think the dial is original. The dial has been protected by the Rolex Oyster case, with signed crown – if you were not aware Tudor was an offspin of parent company Rolex. The case has a dink in the top right lug. The manual wind movement looks to be an ETA base calibre, but correctly signed Tudor. It is working very well. The brown leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
