1957 Birth year watches are often restricted to expensive brands, such as Omega. A good value route into a suitable watch is a USSR produced watch, such as this Kama (We believe this translates to Start)
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to the fourth quarter of 1957.
CONDITION
The watch is better than a lot of USSR watches from this period. The dial has some foxing, but no deeper damage. On the outside of the dial is a brass coloured feature that reflects light nicely. The video shows this better that the photos. The movement is very clean and ticking away happily. The case back is unusual on this watch – you turn it about 30 degrees and it pops off, like a bayonet fitting, rather than unscrewing fully. We have not seen that before. We have fitted a new leather strap, so it is ready to wear.
SIZE
Approximately 36.5 mm wide including the unsigned crown, 10.1 mm thick. Takes a 16 mm strap.
