A men’s 1957 Avia 15 jewel movement in a BWC 9k gold watch case. Watch movements were commonly imported and cased in the UK to avoid high tax duties on complete gold watches.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the Edinburgh hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1957.
CONDITION
The watch is in very pleasant condition. There is some even patina on the dial, but not noticeable at first glance. The hands were lumed, but that will not not glow brightly after the passing years. The applied hour markers are all clean and correct too. The crown looks a later replacement and is a different colour. We have fitted a new crystal and lizard pattern leather strap, so the watch is ready to wear. The Avia box came with this watch, but because the logo is different we think this is a later addition.
