A rare 1955 or 1956 Rone gold watch with box and papers, in great condition.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the Birmingham hallmark on the caseback we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1955. The paperwork shows it was sold on 11th October 1956. Both years have a valid claim to be a birth year watch.
CONDITION
The dial is wonderfully clean for a watch of this age, as many have been damaged by smoke. The 15 jewel handwind movement is smooth and nice to wind. The 9kt gold case is overall in good shape, but there is a dent above one. The hands look original to the watch, but the minute hand has lost some lume. The hour marks are bright and shiny, so they are probably gold too. The strap is nearly new. This would have been a men’s watch when new, but the size could now suit either sex.
