This 1955 Rone was a high specification Swiss men’s watch for the period, featuring automatic winding and a solid 9k gold case.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

We can date this watch to being made in 1955 from the Birmingham Assay office hallmark on the watch case back.

CONDITION

This would have been an expensive Swiss watch at the time.  Few watches of this period are designed to be waterproof and automatic in a 9k gold case – the waterproofness means you have a screw on back which is heavier than a clip on back, which means you need more gold.  The dial has a few marks, but the lettering is very clear and the second hand still has its red tip.  All the raised Arabic hour markers are present and untarnished, so they are probably gold too.  Fitted to a new leather strap which could be swapped for a black leather strap is required – just ask.

SIZE

Approximately 35.8 mm wide including the crown, 11.4 mm thick. Takes a 16 mm strap.
