This men’s Manis watch was supplied by C. W. Reynolds, Watchmaker and Jeweller, in 1955 from Upper Parliament Street in Nottingham.

Little is known about Manis watches, but happily this one comes with the original stamped guarantee for October 1955.  We also have the guarantee for the Excaliber expanding strap, stamped with the same date but no longer with the watch.

This was a high specification watch from the period.  The A. Schild 1430 21 jewel movement is working perfectly and is stamped with the MANIS name.  This has anti shock protection to protect the balance shaft from knocks, where not all watches at this time did have.  It also featured a waterproof case*, with screw down back.  Not only do these keep moisture out, but also stopped cigarette smoke from staining the dial.  The dial and hands were also lumed, and judging by the colour this is Tritium based and not the earlier Radium (which tends to go creamy coloured with age – we would need a Gieger counter to check though!).  The lume has dropped out of the hour hand.  The dial is clean and this is shown off to full effect with the new acrylic crystal we have had fitted, and a new leather strap also makes the watch very wearable.  The cardboard box is damaged, but has not had the sellotape repair that discolours the box thankfully.  The gold plated case is good, with just some wear to the tips of the drilled lugs, and the red tipped second hand is a nice touch.

*Watch manufacturers used to claim water proof, but now use the term water resistant.  At this age the watch should not be considered water proof or resistant.

This watch will be supplied with a the original C. W. Reynolds cardboard presentation box, stamped guarantees and our Certificate of Authenticity.
