With wonderful arrowhead hour markers, this 1955 Majex 9k gold watch is a nice thing at a good price.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1955.
CONDITION
Most gold Majex watches we have been able to get have been engraved, but the case back on this example is free from any engraving. The two piece case is overall in good shape, with just a small dent in the back to report that can not be seen when the watch is being worn of course. Inside the case you find a 17 jewel AS1197 movement, manual winding and stamped for Majex. The copper coated movement looks good but there is an issue – this watch should have a seconds hand and it doesn’t as the pinion has snapped. This doesn’t affect the running of the watch at all, you just don’t have a seconds hand. The original dial is good, with just light patina evenly across it and those deeply faceted hour markers. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
