A nice solid gold ladies Omega cocktail watch, with a sweet manual winding movement. Model reference 77810.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can we can date this movement to being made in 1954. The hallmark in the case shows it was assayed in Birmingham in 1955, so the two would have been paired together then.
CONDITION
The case for this watch was made in England by Dennison for Omega. The reason was that completed gold watches carried a hefty import duty, so many manufacturers had similar arrangements to finish the watch in England and therefore legally avoid the duty. The case back is stamped for Omega, and is designed to fit the cylinder shaped movement, so everything fits nicely. The dial at some point has been refinished and is therefore quite clean. The calibre 244 movement has seventeen jewels and was in production for 21 years, so was well proven. The leather strap is very lightly used.
