Great 1954 Omega with Calibre 354 automatic bumper winding movement

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to 1954.

CONDITION

If you are not sure, a bumper movement is a way of winding up a watch that fell out of favour for the smoother, oscillating weight.  In this watch the weight that winds the watch bounces between two spring in an approximate 300 degree arc.  The effect is just the same, automatic winding.

The watch is working well, and the bezel has been replated in gold so is scratch free.  The gold capped case is a slightly different colour of gold, with the worst mark being a pinhead dent on the top right lug.  The stainless steel back has numerous scratches from tools used to see the movement, but these are not visible when you wear the watch.  The dial has even patina across the face, with some small marks towards the centre.  The watch is fitted with a new crystal and a modern leather strap with gold coloured deployment.  An Omega crown is fitted too, which is possibly newer than 1954 given the condition of it.
