This ladies Visible watch, a brand that started out in 1922 in Switzerland, has a solid 9kt gold case with hallmarks and a gold plated bracelet.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the engraving on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being sold in May 1953. The Case is also hallmarked in Chester in 1952/53, confirming the date.
CONDITION
The watch is in all round nice condition, and like many gold watches appears to have been saved for best. The Swiss movement is marked Visible No 3, and was imported into the UK to be cased in a British case – this was a common practice to avoid paying the hefty import duty on complete gold watches. This is larger than most ladies watches of the period, which works well today. The plated bracelet is a later addition, and could be swapped for a leather strap if required. The dial is clean, and the case dint free. The gold plated crown does have some wear, but works well and isn’t as noticeable in real life as it is on the enlarged photos.
