A very clean, square IGO watch with a personal engraving on the gold case helping us to show when it was gifted.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the inscription on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being given to Peter from his Mom and Dad on 16th January 1951. The inside of the case shows it was hallmarked in Birmingham 1950, which corresponds nicely.
CONDITION
watches of the 1950’s, and especially non waterproof watches of this era, often have stained dials from tobacco smoke leaking into the case as smoking was far more widespread than today. But the dial of this IGO has just very light patination to show some age, and this watch was clearly cared for. We have not had an IGO watch before, and we believe they were connected to Hefik watches. The solid gold case was made by Dennison and shows only light dents, mainly on the case back. The manual wind movement is working well, but we have not been able to identify the maker – it was common to stamp this on the dial side, and we have not needed to remove the dial for anything. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
