HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the date code on the case back and movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1951. However from the paperwork which has the same serial number as the case back we also know it was sold in 1952. Either year could be considered valid for a birth year watch.
CONDITION
Bulova models normally have a name, such as Duchess, American Nurse or Surgeon, but despite searching the references we can not find the model name for this particular style. If you can help please do contact us. The movement is a Bulova 7BSC, and the SC stands for seconds central – you have to remember that most watches at this time had a sub seconds dial, so centre seconds was a selling point on a ladies watch. This hand winding movement has 17 jewels and is all working well. The case is rolled gold with a stainless steel case back and in good order – rolled gold is much thicker than gold plate, which has helped maintain the good condition. The dial is very clean but you can see two feint lines where the radium lumed syringe hands have left an impression on the dial – this often happens if a watch is not used for a long period of time. The crown is signed, and the lugs are drilled for easy strap changes. Most Ladies Bulova watches of this time had a central mounted single lug for a bracelet, so again this is more modern. The acrylic crystal has no chips. The strap is a leather backs blue suede item, with no markers mark, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
