This is a very inexpensive Omega bumper automatic watch, so please read the description fully. Model reference 2375/1.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the engraving on the case back for fifteen years good service we can see that this watch was presented in 1947. The movement serial number is also consistent with this date, and the movement was in production between 1945 and 1949. So everything fits for 1947.
CONDITION
There are two reasons that this watch is not more expensive. One is that the dial has faded or been cleaned in the past, and the text Omega Automatic is only just visible. The other is that this is an early bumper automatic, calibre 28.10, and they are just not as efficient as the later design of full rotor movements still in use today. There are no bumper automatics being made today, as if to prove the point. It is better to ignore the automatic wind element and wear this like a manual watch, with the automatic element just being a bonus. Happily it winds very nicely, so that might be considered a plus and not a negative. Don’t be surprised that his watch is just called Omega. The sub brands of Seamaster (1947), Constellation (1952) and Geneve (1953) were not launched when this watch was made, and the De Ville range didn’t start until 1967. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. The case, which is in fine condition, has drilled lugs so changing straps is easy.
