A clearly military inspired Jaeger-LeCoultre with sword hands and a good size case from the post war period.  Freshly serviced.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the original movement we can accurately date this watch to being produced in 1947.  This information is taken from a collectors book on Jaeger-LeCoultre and not confirmed by the factory, which costs a ridiculous 250CHF.  But the book has been accurate so far when compared to certified sources.

CONDITION

The dial does have some patina near three and from 11 to 2 at the top of the dial, but that is a good thing – so many Jaeger LeCoultre watches of this era will have had the dial repainted so the patina helps show how original this watch is.  The watch is clearly military inspired – the radium lumed sword hands, drilled lugs and railway minute track give that away but this was never in a waterproof case so was intended for the civilian market, plus the military watches had the 479 movement from the same family.  The watch wears large for the size, being all dial, and is larger than most watches of this period too.  There is a pinprick hole in the minute hand lume.  The case back is stainless steel, stamped LeCoultre on the inside, but we are not sure of the case material.  We have just had the calibre 469 movement serviced and it also has a new strap, so it is ready to wear.  The large sub seconds dial is a really nice stylistic touch.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
