A 1940’s 36mm Calatrava style men’s Longines in a steel case – Yes please! Model reference 2339.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1946.
CONDITION
Larger steel watches, especially from Longines, are hot right now. Not only are they scarcer than the smaller or gold cased watches, but they also wear better on a modern wrist. 36mm case size may not seem large now, but when men regularly wore watches between 29-33mm as the norm then it is considered oversized. While a military three handed Longines , or any of their early chronographs could set you back several thousand pounds this watch looks good value. The case has distinctive lugs that extend across the bezel, and apart from a bit of NATO rash on the case back is all in good shape. Inside that steel case is a Longines 12.68Z manual wind movement, which was in productions for over two decades. This is running well, and is a pleasure to wind like most Longines movements. The dial has been restored at some point, long before we bought the watch, and is quite clean but does have a couple of marks. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
The Calatrava name comes from the Patek Philippe range, but is commonly used to describe this style of watch.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
