Possibly bought to celebrate the end of the war, this ladies Buren vintage gold watch is in good order.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the London hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1946.

CONDITION

Buren have a history going back to 1898, but their most famous watch is possibly the WWW ‘Dirty Dozen’ watch for the British Military first produced in 1944.  Some of the other eleven companies chosen were Longines, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Omega and IWC, so this is a decent indicator that they were making good watches in the 1940’s.

This watch has a gold case, which some would describe as rose gold as it has a more copper tone than yellow gold.  It is hinged, and quite remarkably for the age of the watch it doesn’t appear to have any dents.  The fixed bars are straight, and we have fitted a new leather strap to the watch.  The matte gold dial is very clean, with clear printing of the Breguet numerals, and it is a Breguet style of blued hand chosen too.  The movement is a 15 jewel manual wind, marked Buren Eldis.  It is running well, keeping time to within a couple of minutes a day and lasting for more than 24 hours between winds.  It clearly has some quality – some of the jewelled bearings are set into gold chantons rather than directly into the bridges, a practise which is normally reserved for high end pieces.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
