This Swiss made men’s Record watch, in the honey gold cushion case, is a rare survivor of troubled times. Great condition.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the London hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1944.
CONDITION
Watches made towards the end of WW2 that are not designated for military use are hard to find, especially from a company that were commissioned to make watches for the forces.
The dial on this watch is in close to perfect condition. Given that this is not a waterproof case, and that the majority of people smoked in the 1940’s, we can not be 100% sure if the dial has not been restored or replaced at some point. The Breguet numerals have slight pitting to the ink when viewed under a 10x loupe. The three blued hands are all good. The honey gold 9k case has no damage other than very light surface scratches, and shuts crisply. The case also features wide fixed lugs to take straps up to 18mm – the current strap is a NATO style to suit the wartime period (Yes, we know neither NATO nor this type of strap was around in 1944, but we like the watch on this strap!) The 15 jewel manual wind Record 106 movement is keeping decent time.
