A solid gold Trebex rectangular watch with an unusually high specification movement for the time.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the Edinburgh hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1940.  Trebex were only registered in Biel, Switzerland, in February 1938 so this is one of their earlier watches.

CONDITION

The BWC made case on the watch is in great condition, and it is hinged to allow access to the dial and movement.    The dial does have a few marks, but it quite clean for a non waterproof watch from 1940, and the numerals are very 1930’s on the dial.  The hands are blued.  The movement is a fifteen jewel ETA one, but with a high specification including gold chantons holding the gear train pivots, 3 timing adjustments and an early form of shock protection on the balance.  The leather strap is new.  This size watch would have been marketed as a men’s watch when it was new, but now it could be worn happily by anyone.

Watches from the war years are hard to find in this original condition.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
