This Half Hunter pocket watch by Limit has a good quality Dennison Moon gold plated case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the matching serial numbers on the inside of the case back, under the dust cover and under the half hunter cover we can say with confidence this watch was made in 1934.
CONDITION
Just in case you are unfamiliar with the terminology, a full hunter watch has a metal cover over the entire dial, to protect the watch while hunting. A half hunter, like this watch, protects most of the dial but has a small window to allow you to read the time while the protective metal cover is in place. If you want to see the entire dial on either of these you must push the crown inwards (on most watches), and the case springs open. This is shown on the video too. The case is made by Dennison, and is the mid range of their Star, Moon and Sun case standards. Dennison registered the Moon case standard in 1920, and these quality cases were guaranteed for 20 years not to show wear. It has easily exceeded this, and the only thing to report is a small dent in the case back. The dial is clean and has no cracks, and is set at 90 degrees to the crown. The glass looks perfect, but is made from acrylic so may be a later replacement – acrylic was being used for watches by this time, but it has normally yellowed badly over time. The movement, manual winding of course, is clean and running strongly but does lose about 5 minutes per 24 hours. Like the dial, the movement is branded Limit but this was made in Switzerland whereas the Limit factory was in Tameside, England, which is where the watch would have been assembled.
