This gold filled Elgin has a distinctive scalloped edge design that still catches the eye 85 years after it was made. Model reference 6734
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the Elgin movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1934.
CONDITION
When you are looking at an 80+ year old watch you should make some allowances. So we can forgive the dirty dial, as it is still legible and is better than a clean dial that has been repainted. There is also a chip to the glass near ten, which isn’t going to spread. But the movement, a calibre 519 with 15 jewels and Breguet hairspring is still running strongly and keeping reasonable time. What’s more, the 10k gold filled case is remarkable – we would expect the high point on the scallops along either edge to have worn through, but they haven’t. You also have drilled lugs to make strap changing easy, and the 17.5mm lugs allow you to squeeze in an 18mm strap, making the watch more wearable. Everything is working as it should be, and the case clips together positively.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
