c1958 Majak USSR made 16j men’s watch with harder to find black dial.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

This watch was made in the Petrodworzowy Watch Factory and features a movement that had two modifications in 1957 and 1959.  This particular watch has the first modification (a push button for stem release) and not the second modification (a reduction from two crown wheel screws to one).  Therefore it must be circa 1958.

CONDITION

The dial is nice, and it is harder to find vintage watches of this period with good original black dials.  Many black dials have had to be repainted, but not this one.  There is some fading around six.  The hands all appear to be original too.  The case is scruffy, and the price reflects this.  The bezel is interesting with its faceted design.  We have fitted a new leather strap.  The movement is clean and appears to have been oiled recently, and it is running strongly.
