One of the most sought after Seiko models, this 6138-0040 Bullhead chronograph is a big chunk of 70’s loveliness.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in November 1976.

CONDITION

The Bullhead design, so called because the chrono pushers stick up like bulls horns, is a big watch.  The fact the case is cantered over to make it easier to read makes this noticeable on the wrist, and it is unlikely to slip under and shirt cuff easily.  You have three chrono hands, hour and minute hand and a day date display at 6 in English and Kanji.  Both calendar features can be quick set.  The chrono functions are all working correctly, the watch keeps good time with or without the chrono running and the fishbone bracelet is a good size.  Both the bracelet and the hands may be later like for like replacements, as the condition is better than you would expect on both.  The case has a couple of knocks, which is almost impossible not to get when the watch is this thick, and the tachymeter bezel has the tiniest of scratches, most noticeably between 120-130. The glass has the smallest chip near 10.
