A solid gold Men’s Smiths Astral watch with the 17 jewel movement from 1966. Never engraved, but with some issues.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the London hall mark on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1966.
The watch has two particular issues, so let’s deal with those immediately. First is a few scratches on the dial, and the other issue is the second hand is missing. The two may be linked – maybe the second hand became loose and scratched the dial? We’ll never know. We have priced the watch to account for these issues. The rest of the watch is good, with the case being straight and unpolished. The strap may be the original, so we have left that on. The movement is working well, albeit with two hands, and the calendar function has the semi quick set feature. The crown is worn, but still reasonably easy to operate. The case back has not been engraved, whereas the majority of these watches were given as long service awards.
This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
